The No. 8 (5A) Ames Little Cyclones (13-4) fell 14-4 to No. 2 (3A) Wahlert Catholic High School of Dubuque (14-0) on June 13.
The visiting Golden Eagles had an early 3-0 lead before the Little Cyclones plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Mya Geffre pushed Ames ahead 5-4, but the sophomore was called out for not touching home in a cruel twist on Friday the 13th.
Wahlert scored one run in the fourth, six in the fifth and three in the sixth inning. Golden Eagle pitcher and Iowa commit Julia Roth struck out four Ames batters and went 4-5 at the plate, including a home run which soared over the scoreboard.
Wahlert outhit the Little Cyclones, 16-9. Geffre, Jaya Theilen and Kiley Sodahl each had two hits for Ames.
