A Marshalltown man is charged with first-degree murder after the death of an 11-month-old child in 2024.
The Ames Police Department arrested Tyler Lee Zeuthen, 24, last week and charged him with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death, both felonies. The charges are connected to a child homicide investigation following Ames Police responding to a report of a child not breathing at 3604 Ontario St. last November.
Paramedics arrived and attempted life saving measures on the child, according to a news release from the Ames Police Department. The child was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.
“Officers and Mary Greeley Medical Center staff noted various bruises on the child’s body,” according to a police report filed earlier this month. “A postmortem examination of the child indicated the child sustained fatal internal injuries determined by a physician to be caused by acute abdominal blunt force trauma.”
The United States Marshals Service Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force, Marshalltown Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
