Audi Crooks scored 24 points, Addy Brown had 17 points, and Reese Beaty tallied nine points in her first collegiate game as Iowa State defeated UW-Oshkosh 84-53 at Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday.
“It doesn’t count, but it matters,” Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly said. “It matters how you play, it matters how you engage (with) your teammates.”
The Cyclones also got eight points each from Arizona transfer Jada Williams — who dished out a game-high seven assists — and Sydney Harris, six points from Kenzie Hare, five points from Alisa Williams, three points from Johnston native Aili Tanke, and both Wofford transfer Evangelia Paulk and Risskov, Denmark, native Freya Jensen tallied two points in the win.
“The challenge is, you have Jada, Addy and Audi and you know what you’re going to get,” Fennelly said. “Now, it’s how do we mix the other guys in there.”
The Cyclones scored 50 points in the paint, had 19 points off of 14 Titan turnovers, got 15 points off of fast breaks, and had 29 points come from the bench. The Cyclones shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field in the game and connected on five 3-point baskets on 17 attempts.
“We just really care what’s going on in our locker room and we had a good game overall,” junior forward Addy Brown said. “There’s still a lot of things we need to fix, we know that.”
Iowa State led 49-28 after the first 20 minutes and outscored the Titans 35-25 in the final 20 minutes to take the victory.
