A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be making a stop in Nevada on Thursday.
The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., makes its way across the country every year to honor local veterans, and its next stop will be in Nevada.
The exhibit is put on by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and sponsored by local organizations.
“Nevada is honored to provide the opportunity for Iowans to visit the replica Vietnam Veterans Memorial,” said Emily Shaack, the executive director of Main Street Nevada.
From Thursday through Sunday, The Wall That Heals will be set up at the SCORE Recreation Athletic Complex, 1543 Fawcett Parkway, in Nevada to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The exhibit, which will be open all day and night, includes the memorial replica and an education center that includes several displays.
“Admission is free, and there will be a chance to do name rubbings and learn about those who lost their lives at the Mobile Education Center,” Shaack said. “Taps will be played at sundown each evening.”
The exhibit first started in 1996 as a way to bring history and remembrance around the country and has since visited over 800 communities across the country. In 2024, the exhibit traveled more than 20,000 miles, visited 29 communities, and saw nearly 200,000 visitors.
The Wall That Heals was last in Iowa in 2022 in Tama. It first visited Iowa in 2000 in Jesup. See where else The Wall has been on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund website.
