Rummage RAMPage, Ames’ way of saving used home goods from going to the landfill, had a record-breaking year of success.
Raising $72,641 this year, up from last year’s total of $62,400, Rummage RAMPage diverted 131,434 pounds of furniture and housewares from the landfill to new homes.
“The success of Rummage RAMPage can be attributed to our community that continues to show up every year,” Merry Rankin, Iowa State University sustainability director said in a statement to the Voice.
This year had a slight decrease in goods sold despite bringing in more money: In 2024, 132,782 pounds of furniture and household goods found new homes.
“Rummage RAMPage has developed a huge community following, and the event’s success is dependent on continued community support of donations, purchases and volunteers,” according to a release from the City of Ames.
Since starting in 2016, 996,000 pounds of home goods were sold at Rummage RAMPage, and $357,495 was raised for area nonprofits.
Fifty-one area nonprofit organizations helped facilitate the event at the Ames Intermodal Facility over the nine days the sale took place. The money raised goes toward each nonprofit based on the number of volunteer hours.
“The record-breaking results from this year’s event are both impressive and humbling — exemplifying a collective vision toward ensuring a sustainable future,” Rankin said.
Planning for Rummage RAMPage 2026 has already begun, with dates for the sale set for July 24 through Aug. 1, 2026.
