In a dominant display on their home turf, the Ames High Little Cyclones rolled past the Waukee Warriors 4-0 in the Class 4A Substate 3 semifinals on May 27.
The Little Cyclones struck early and often, with Matthias Roettger opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Just three minutes later, Kenan Taintor doubled the lead amid heavy traffic in front of the net, giving Ames a quick 2-0 advantage.
Waukee’s frustrations began to show, punctuated by a yellow card issued to Nathan Tshiamala in the second half as the Warriors struggled to contain Ames’ pace and pressure.
Ames maintained control throughout the second half, continuing to stifle Waukee’s attack while adding to their lead. Zachary Cuva made it 3-0 in the 55th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Ethan Sigurdsson capped off the scoring to seal a convincing 4-0 win.
