Mid-Iowa Community News

Mid-Iowa Community News was incorporated in March 2024 with the mission of being the primary source of news and information for the Ames area, focusing on complete coverage that values local insights, diverse voices, and ethical reporting, while prioritizing community engagement and empowerment. Its board established bylaws and adopted policies to ensure journalistic integrity and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in its publishing and operations.

The Inspiration

Inspired by a group of concerned community advocates and leaders, Mid-Iowa Community News is being designed and developed to provide Ames and surrounding Mid-Iowa communities with a relevant, thorough, independent, non-partisan local news source.

The Ames Voice

Mid-Iowa Community News will own and operate an independent news organization the Ames Voice, which will be a web-based news outlet run by local journalists. The Voice will publish regularly and cover topics such as city councils, school boards, businesses, sports, and features. The Voice will be supported through advertising, various sponsorships, grants, and individual donor giving.
