The Ames City Council voted to allow deer hunting in Munn Woods despite the fact that a city commission had recommended against the idea. The new hunting season would start later this fall, pending approval by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
A team of 1,931 volunteers spent time last week stenciling, gutting and carving 1,400 pumpkins in preparation for the Spirits in the Gardens event held at Reiman Gardens during the weekend.

The Ames City Council took the first step toward raising electric rates by 1.5% for all residents and businesses on Tuesday. It also altered a landscaping rule after a request from ISU Research Park.
More than 2,000 people gathered in downtown Ames on Saturday for the city's Pridefest. The annual celebration hosted businesses, live music performances, and LGBTQ+ pride-related activities for Ames locals to celebrate pride on the corner of Fifth Street and Douglas Avenue.

Students, residents and Little Cyclone fans crowded Main Street on Monday to kick off Ames High’s homecoming week with the annual parade. The parade featured various sports teams, school organizations and the marching band. The parade also included the students voted to the homecoming court.

The fundraising campaign for a new Ames Animal Shelter is $300,000 from meeting its $7.5 million goal. The city of Ames has purchased a building and some land for the construction of a new animal shelter at 2715 Dayton Ave. The shelter, however, needed $7.5 million to support development of the new facility, including a complete renovation of the building, which was previously a daycare facility.
