After turning the ball over twice in the opening minute, it looked like No. 10 Iowa State might be in for a choppy night.
Instead, the Cyclones delivered one of the most overwhelming offensive performances in program history — and turned Hilton Coliseum into a fireworks show.
Iowa State obliterated Alcorn State 132–68 on Wednesday, breaking the school record for both points scored and made three-pointers. It wasn’t just a blowout of the Braves from Mississippi. It was a statistical marvel.
A timeout … then an avalanche
Down 7-2 just 78 seconds into the game, Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger called a quick timeout. The response was instant and emphatic.
Killyan Toure’s steal and dunk jump-started a Cyclone surge, and suddenly sophomore forward Joshua Jefferson took over the building. In a four minute 12 second blitz, Jefferson poured in 13 points — including a transition dunk and a smooth pull-up three — as ISU surged to a 17–9 lead.
That was only the opening act.
Nearly perfect shooting
For the first 10 minutes, Iowa State played as if the rim were the size of a hula hoop. The Cyclones started 12-for-13 from the field and rattled off an 11-0 run that ballooned the lead to 32-13.
By halftime, the numbers were borderline absurd:
- 65 points
- 22-for-29 shooting
- 8-for-8 from deep
- Jefferson: 20 points, 4 assists
- Milan Momcilovic: a perfect 3-for-3 from three
Halftime didn’t cool them off.
A shooting clinic for the ages
The second half became a highlight reel. Momcilovic kept firing — and kept hitting — finishing a nearly flawless 8-for-9 from three-point range and scoring 27 points. Jefferson, steady throughout, was one of six Cyclones in double figures, with 24 points.
At one point midway through the half, Iowa State was shooting 77.8% overall and 80% from three. The lead ballooned past triple digits, and Hilton buzzed between shock and delight as the Cyclones pushed toward history.
They got it.
History made
By the final horn:
- 132 points — a new single-game ISU scoring record
- 22 made threes — another school record
- A 64-point margin that reflected pure domination from the timeout onward
For all the numbers, the story was simple: Iowa State played with rhythm, confidence, and ruthless efficiency. Every pass hummed, every jumper felt true and every possession multiplied the roar inside Hilton.
