The Ames Little Cyclones (16-12) delivered a dominant performance against Des Moines NorthEast (0-14), sweeping their doubleheader with a 13-0 shutout in the first game followed by a 14-3 victory in the second game on Tuesday.
Game 1: Sodahl’s milestone and a shutout
Little Cyclones’ pitcher Kiley Sodahl recorded her 100th career strikeout during the game. Sodahl was virtually untouchable from the circle, tossing four innings of no-hit ball and allowing only a single walk while finishing the game with four strikeouts to earn the win.
The Ames offense backed her performance with an explosive display, led by Mya Geffre, who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs. Chloe Thompson was also perfect in the box, going 2-for-2 with a triple. Charlotte Woodley and Rhea Rudrapatna provided additional depth by driving in two RBIs each.
Game 2: Continued offensive dominance
Ames maintained their high-powered offensive momentum into the second game of the day, completing the series sweep with a 14-3 win that improved their season record to 15-12. The Little Cyclones’ hitters displayed remarkable power throughout the lineup, recording three triples courtesy of Mya Geffre, Chloe Thompson and Cassie Kopaska.
Thompson continued her dominant day at the plate by driving in another three runs, while Rhea Rudrapatna remained highly efficient, going 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs.
On the defensive side, freshman Brooklyn Benz took over pitching duties and threw 4.0 innings to secure the victory. Although she surrendered five hits and three earned runs, the relentless Ames offense, which produced 14 total bases in the second game alone, ensured the Little Cyclones remained firmly in control from start to finish.
With these two victories, the Little Cyclones improved their season record to 16-12.
