On a windy day in Ames, the first half of the Little Cyclones’ boys soccer game against Des Moines East was not going in Ames’ favor.
The Scarlets’ Leonel Camarena-Cruz scored off a series of deflections with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. At halftime, Des Moines East, which was seeking its second win of the season, held a 1-0 lead.
Ames sought to answer in the second half. And it did.
Four minutes into the second half, Jamison Lynch scored to tie the game, 1-1. The game remained back and forth for a stretch before Ames took the lead.
With 13 minutes remaining, Joshua Thompson scored after dribbling past the Des Moines East goalkeeper and chipping the ball in. Three minutes later, Gavin Murphy added another goal to seal the win.
Ames improved its record to 5-5-3.
