It’s officially the holiday season — the temperature has dropped, there’s snow on the ground and decorations are up. There are markets, celebrations, festive gatherings, holiday music and more in and around Ames that are sure to get you in good spirits ahead of Christmas Day.
Numerous boxes sit full of books on Wednesday as dozens of volunteers begin to unpack them on tables throughout the Farwell T. Brown Auditorium for the Ames Public Library's book sale.

Book sale so everyone can start a library

Volunteers unloaded hundreds of boxes with books that span all genres — from science fiction to reference books and gardening to children’s literature on Wednesday. It’s time for the Ames Public Library’s book sale.
The Alliant Energy Solar Farm at ISU welcomed OLLI at Iowa State members to learn more about its public-private partnership during a tour in the fall of 2024.

A lifelong learning opportunity in the community

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Iowa State University has offered numerous educational opportunities for community members since 2008, and with numerous volunteer instructors and support from Iowa State, the participant feedback the program has received has been quite positive.
Pumpkin patches, apple orchards, murder mysteries and more are right here in Ames and surrounding communities for you to partake in.

It’s now the season of cooler weather, changing leaves and spooky festivities. Halloween is a time for dressing up — maybe with a jacket if it continues to stay chilly — but you can get in the spooky mood ahead of Halloween night.

Students, residents and Little Cyclone fans crowded Main Street on Monday to kick off Ames High’s homecoming week with the annual parade. The parade featured various sports teams, school organizations and the marching band. The parade also included the students voted to the homecoming court.
