No. 12 Iowa State turned Sunday afternoon into a display of long-range shooting and statistical milestones, rolling past the visiting Norfolk State Spartans 98-52 at Hilton Coliseum.
Addy Brown was honored with pregame recognition for surpassing 1,000 career points in the Cyclones’ win last week over Valparaiso.
Brown went on to claim an even rarer achievement, recording the first triple-double (and the fourth in program history) of her career with 11 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds before checking out to a standing ovation in the fourth quarter.
A fast start
Iowa State quickly seized control. Arianna Jackson hit back-to-back 3-point baskets which sparked an 8-0 run, and the Cyclones closed the first quarter ahead 26-11.
Jada Williams added her own milestone early, reaching 750 career points on a first-quarter three.
Jackson made three, 3-point baskets in the opening frame, while Sydney Harris added two more as ISU relied heavily on its perimeter attack. By the middle of the second quarter, the Cyclones had connected on nine 3-pointers and they finished the half with 10 and a 53-25 lead.
Harris and Audi Crooks shared the team lead at halftime with 11 points apiece.
The Cyclones led 77-41 at the end of the third quarter, with Brown closing in on her triple-double.
Pair of double-doubles
Off the bench, Alisa Williams recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in 14 minutes. Crooks, too, had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
It’s the sixth time an Iowa State women’s basketball team coached by Fennelly had three Cyclones record double-doubles.
