LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 2 Iowa State (16-1, 3-1 Big 12) suffered a 83-64 loss to Kansas (12-5, 2-2 Big 12) on Tuesday evening.
Joshua Jefferson and Jamarion Batemon led Iowa State with 12 points each.
The Cyclones shot just 24 percent from the floor in the first half. The Jayhawks jumped out to a 14-9 lead that exploded into a 44-18 lead with 1:37 remaining in the first half. Iowa State went into halftime behind 44-23.
A Nate Heise dunk with 12:47 remaining slimmed the Kansas lead to 11 before going on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes. Ames native Tamin Lipsey connected on a 3-point basket, but the Jayhawks answered with their own 3-pointer by Jamari McDowell 22 seconds after Lipsey’s basket. Batemon added to the scoring column for the Cyclones, but Kansas’ ability to consistently connect was too much to overcome.
