On a warm, 70-degree Monday, Ames took control early and never let up in a 3-0 win over Urbandale.
The Little Cyclones entered the matchup at 3-0-1 and extended their unbeaten streak, while the J-Hawks were still in search of their first win.
Ames wasted little time getting on the board. Just two minutes in, Simay Zhu finished a through pass with a shot past the goalkeeper to give Ames a 1-0 lead.
One minute later, Kiersten Hinson drew a foul in the box and converted the penalty kick to make it 2-0.
Nine minutes after Hinson’s goal, Natalie Westort added another, pushing the lead to 3-0. Ames would not score again but maintained control throughout the remainder of the match.
With the win, Ames improves to 4-0-1 on the season, while Urbandale remains winless.
Next time: Ames travels to Norwalk on Thursday for a 5:45 p.m. match.
