DES MOINES — The Ames girls softball season came to an end Saturday as the Little Cyclones were shut out 8-0 by No. 10 Des Moines Roosevelt in Class 5A – Region 3 postseason action. The loss concludes the year for Ames, which finishes with a 23-17 record.
The Little Cyclones’ offense struggled to find traction against Roosevelt pitcher Clara Page, who limited them to just two hits over five innings of work.
Sophomores Charlotte Woodley and Hailey Craig provided the only hits for Ames, each recording a single. The only other Ames baserunner was senior Journey Wolfe, who was hit by a pitch. As a team, the Little Cyclones struck out four times.
In the circle, sophomore Kiley Sodahl started for Ames, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits across two innings. Freshman Brooklyn Benz pitched the final two innings in relief, surrendering six runs on eight hits as the Roughriders pulled away.
The contest marked the final high school game for Ames seniors Journey Wolfe and Meredith Frandsen. Wolfe will play college softball at Northeast Iowa Community College, where home games are played in Farley. Frandsen will run track at Wartburg College in Waverly.
